The Little Rascals Programs

At Little Rascals, we recognise the importance of the parental role in a child’s learning outcomes… that’s why our primary focus is on the individual child within the context of his/her family.

To effectively attend to the needs of individual children (and the group as a whole), our programs are dynamic rather than static, drawing heavily on the importance of play in developing children’s interpersonal skills. Additionally, we encourage children to play an active role in selecting the materials and experiences that they interact with in our centres.

We know that children learn effectively through play, exploration and curiosity, and we endorse the concept of cross-cultural and non-discriminatory programs.

All our programs aim to provide a safe, comfortable and caring environment directed towards meeting each child’s development needs whilst supporting the child’s home life (by respecting the needs, composition and relationships within family groups). In tandem, we encourage interaction among all age groups within the centre to foster healthy sibling relationships and promote the values of care and tolerance (in both individual and group environments). Our Educators respect the beauty of diversity and encourage children to respectfully do so too… instigating learning about human diversity (including ethnicity, gender and disabilities), guiding the values of respect for others and the self as early on as possible.

We also encourage healthy self-exploration and self-expression, giving children freedom, safety and permission to express their opinions, learn about their feelings and develop a healthy sense of self. In doing so, our Educators maintain regular contact with parents and through this consistent communication, help parents be empowered in the emotional learning journeys of their children (as well as their educational outcomes). In doing so, parents can better relate to their children, reduce the instances of conflict within the family dynamic and allow children to feel free to be themselves.

Our regular staff meetings further these open lines of communication and allow our staff to have consistent opportunities for furthering their own education and abilities to better assist children… and additionally, we encourage parents to participate in the activities of the centre wherever possible. This feedback cycle and involvement from all pillars of a child’s home and educational life provides a foundation for a holistic learning environment for each child.
